QUESTION: I receive some, but not all of the messages from the mailing list. Why?
There are a couple of things that could be happening. The most likely culprit is that you are using a Yahoo address for the list. Yahoo, and most other mail providers, filter email that they consider to be spam. With most providers this is not a problem and mail from the list gets through just fine. Yahoo is special.
sdkrashen.com is hosted on a computer along side of many other unrelated web-sites. All of these sites share an IP address (this reduces the cost). If ANY email from ANY of these sites is marked as spam by Yahoo, Yahoo blocks mail from ALL of them for a period of time known only to them. This is particularly true of mail sent to multiple addresses like in a mailing list. The result is that MOST email gets through MOST of the time, but not ALL of it ALL of the time.
So what can you do about this?
1) Check your Spam/Bulk folder and make sure that there is no message from the list in there. If there is, mark it as NOT SPAM. This will help you receive the majority of the mail from the list.
2) If you know that there is a message that you did not receive, complain to Yahoo and let them know that you want to receive all mail from the list. Mail from the list will come from one of these addresses: (remove the spaces)
3) Get a new mailing address. Google has free email (gmail.com) and has none of these problems. Unfortunately they use an invitation system so you can't just sign up for it. If you need an invitation (they are free as is gmail), just send me a message requesting one to manager @ sdkrashen.com (remove the spaces) and I'll send you one.
QUESTION: What is the mailing list?
ANSWER: From time to time Dr. Krashen sends email to the people on this list.
These messages are generally updates to the web-site, short articles, and
letters to newspapers and magazines.
QUESTION: Will I receive SPAM if I'm on the mailing list?
ANSWER: No. Membership in the list is private. Only Dr. Krashen and the manager
of the list have access to it and only they can send mail to the list. No address
on the list will be transfered to any other person or company.
QUESTION: How do I SUBSCRIBE to the list?
ANSWER: Enter you email address (ex. yourname@yourprovider.com) in the box
on the main page of the web-site and click on the subscribe button. You will
then receive an email at that address asking you to confirm your membership.
Reply to that message (Do NOT change the SUBJECT line!!). You will then
receive an email welcoming you to the list. Please SAVE this email. It contains
information you will need if you should decide to leave the list.
QUESTION: How do I UNSUBSCRIBE to the list?
ANSWER: On the main page of the web-site there is a link "Manage your subscription. / View archives."
Clicking on that will take you to a page where you can unsubscribe from the list.
You will need the password that you were sent when you joined the list. This
password is also sent to you about once a month.
If all else fails: send an email to
QUESTION: I've tried to subscribe/unsubscribe to the list, but I can't get it to work! Help!
ANSWER: If all else fails: send an email to
ANSWER: If you left click on that link, most browsers
(Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc...) will try to download and
display the document in the browser. This is a fairly large document
at about 593K bytes. On slower connections, it can take several (5 to 10)
minutes to fully download. Unfortunately nothing will be
displayed in some browsers until the download is finished.
If you have tried the link and after waiting 5 to 10 minutes nothing
happens, there are a couple of alternatives:
1) You may not have the current version of the Adobe Acrobat reader. Click
on the following link to get it and try again.
Download Adobe Acrobat® Reader. (Free)
2) If you right click on the link, in most browsers a menu will come
up and it will have an option something like:
"Save Link Target As", "Save Link As" or "Save Target As".
If you select that option, a file dialog will come up and you will
be asked where you want to save the file. Chose an appropriate
directory on your hard drive and click "OK".
3) As a final option if all else fails, write to me at
